Horizon: Zero Dawn - The Frozen Wilds Review A lifetime of intense physical activity has resulted in her being in exceptional physical condition.Īloy has many outfits in both games, but her default outfit in Zero Dawn is the Nora Brave outfit and, in Forbidden West, the Nora Anointed outfit. Her eyes are green and her eyebrows are narrow. She also has accessories in her hair such as beads. Her hair is pulled back with braids in the back and on the sides. She is 1.68 meters (5 feet 6 inches) tall, with long red hair and freckles on her cheeks and nose. She is voiced by voice actress Ashly Burch and modeled after actress Hannah Hoekstra. In doing so, she unraveled the mysteries of why the world became as it is, and also learned the true nature of her origins. Aloy succeeded, saving life on Earth and the humans of the new world that Zero Dawn created. GAIA created Aloy for the purpose of stopping HADES, a rogue AI bent on reactivating the Faro Plague in order to wipe out life again, and repair the AI itself, after it self-destructed in an attempt to destroy the rogue AI. She was created by GAIA, the governing artificial intelligence of Project Zero Dawn, a global terraforming system that Sobeck had designed and whose implementation she had spearheaded, which restored life to Earth after its eradication by the Faro Plague. A Nora Brave, Seeker and machine hunter of unparalleled skill, Aloy is the genetic clone of 21st century roboticist and engineer Dr. Speak her name!"Īloy is the main protagonist of Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West, and a minor character in Horizon Call of the Mountain.

For that reason, many fans have assumed Aloy to be queer as well.īurning Shores, the new DLC for Forbidden West, confirms Aloy’s sexuality with the introduction of a romance between the heroine and her female companion Seyka, who’s new to this new chapter. The two are treated as essentially the same person, just in two different timelines. Queerness has never been officially linked to a genetic marker in real life (although many scientists have researched it), but the Horizon games have always seemed to lean a little bit towards the magical when it comes to the extreme similarities between Aloy and her foremother. Near the end of Forbidden West, Aloy learns that Elizabet was a queer woman. Selecting the heart options never did lead to a romance, though, which further led fans and critics to speculate that Aloy could be asexual.įorbidden West also included another hint in the storyline of Elisabet Sobeck, a scientist from the distant past of whom Aloy is an exact genetic clone. It did seem, however, as though the vestiges of a romance system was present in Forbidden West in dialogue options with the Sun-King Avad early on in the game, players could select responses from Aloy that had a heart symbol next to them, similar to how romance-specific dialogue is demarcated in BioWare games like Dragon Age and Mass Effect.

Multiple male characters have expressed romantic interest in Aloy in the past, but she would always shoot them down. As of the Burning Shores DLC, which is currently available exclusively on PlayStation 5 and set after the events of Forbidden West, that’s changed. Those relationships never went beyond the platonic level, though. Aloy didn’t have much time for romance during the breakneck events of Horizon Zero Dawn, but in the sequel to the post-apocalyptic open world RPG, called Forbidden West, the heroine formed many close bonds with other characters.
